City of Inverness issued the following announcement.
The City of Inverness is preparing for the first-ever Light Up the Lake event set for Friday, December 4, 2020. This event is welcomes those who want to participate in a variety of ways. First, the City is encouraging all who live along the lakes to decorate for the holidays and help “light up the lake.”
Next, boaters can join in the Cove’s Lighted Boat Parade and create a magical sight for spectators. To register for the boat parade, stop by the Cove Restaurant or Apopka Marine. There are great prizes for first, second and third place in the boat parade.
The Light Up the Lake event is free and open to the public and starts at 4:00 p.m. It’s an outdoor event with something for everyone. The evening starts with children’s activities and community groups selling hot cocoa and treats. Join us on the lawn of Liberty Park for the tree lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. This 31-foot-tall Christmas tree is fully decorated and will be an impressive site for park visitors. The Cove’s Lighted Boat Parade will pass by the parks at 6:30 p.m.
The Citrus Community Concert Choir and the Nature Coast Dulcimer Players will follow the tree lighting and will provide Christmas music for about two hours.
Santa and Mrs. Clause will be in the Depot District visiting with children from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
This outdoor event will take Covid-19 precautions and ask all participants where a mask, socially distance, wash hands frequently, use hand sanitizer, limit touch points and encourage people to stay home if they do not feel well.
