Libraries Add Outdoor Wi-Fi Access

1

Citrus County Public Library recently issued the following announcement.

Beginning in August, the Citrus County Library System has expanded its service to include outdoor public Wi-Fi access at all branch locations. Designated parking lot areas and adjacent sidewalks now have Wi-Fi accessibility that will be available from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. These additional Wi-Fi access points will allow patrons to utilize the library’s Wi-Fi services to access the Internet outside of the regular hours of operation.

Currently, there are approximately 1 in 4 homes in Citrus County that lack stable broadband connections. Additionally, citizens can’t always make it to the library during open hours. The Library System recognized this challenge, specifically for those seeking employment, for students enrolled in traditional or eSchool, and for residents who rely on the Internet to stay connected to family members. Library staff applied for and received a grant of $6,779 to expand Wi-Fi services to be available outside of the buildings.

Funding for this project was provided through the Florida Department of State from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the CARES Act.

For more details on additional services and resources please visit citruslibraries.org, like and follow Citrus County Library System on Facebook, or call your local branch.
