Citrus County issued the following announcement on Oct. 26.
As Halloween and the 2021-2022 flu season approaches, the Florida Department of Health in Citrus County (DOH-Citrus) encourages everyone to treat themselves to a no-cost flu shot on Saturday, Nov. 6.
No-cost flu shots will be available at the DOH-Citrus drive-thru event from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Lecanto Health Department, 3700 W. Sovereign Path. Flu shots will be available, while supplies last, to adults and children older than 6 months.
In addition to the drive-thru event, the DOH-Citrus COVID-19 vaccination clinic will also be available next door to the health department at the UF/IFAS Extension building from 8 a.m. to noon. Individuals interested in getting a COVID-19 vaccine will need to park and go inside the building located at 3650 W. Sovereign Path in Lecanto.
Yearly flu shots are recommended for anyone older than 6 months of age, but they’re especially important for older adults, pregnant individuals, young children and people with underlying health conditions.
It takes approximately two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop protection against the flu. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is safe to receive your flu vaccine the same time as your COVID-19 vaccine.
