Abdul-Hakim's Big Week Earns Player of the Week Recognition

Santa Fe College Athletics issued the following announcement on Nov. 9.

Guard Hasan Abdul-Hakim of Santa Fe College Men's Basketball has been selected as the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. The FCSAA release is included below.

On the week, Abdul-Hakim, from Toronto, Ontario, contributed in a variety of ways and averaged 19.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. Additionally, he shot 61.1 percent from the floor to help the Saints win the season's first three games of the 2021-2022 season. 

In the 84-82 victory at Hillsborough, he had a team-high 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, 11 rebounds, five assists, and a steal. The 6'7" guard produced the Saints final nine points down the stretch, including the go-ahead bucket and the foul with just 6.3 ticks left on the clock, putting the Saints ahead for good. Box Score

Against No. 3 FSW, Abdul-Hakim continued his high-level play with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting (2-of-5 from beyond the arc), 7 assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Once again, he made a great play in the final seconds, assisting on the go-ahead, game-winning basket with 15 seconds left to Nicolas McClain. Box Score

Abdul-Hakim and the receiving votes Saints will next take the floor in the JUCO Shootout vs. Miami Dade on Friday, Nov. 12. Tipoff is set for noon between the Saints & Sharks in a game played at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Fla.

After the opening week of the season, Santa Fe swept the weekly awards for men's and women's basketball, with Aleisha Curry being honored on the women's side.
