Deadline For Middle And High School "Trash To Treasure" Art Contest Is April 4

County of Citrus recently issued the following announcement.

The University of Florida (UF)/Citrus County Extension Service is proud to debut a new art contest, open to all Citrus County middle and high school students. Participating students can showcase their environmental awareness by transforming trash into art for awards and prizes.

The Trash to Treasure contest was created through a collaborative effort by the UF Extension Services and Citrus County government to raise awareness about the environment and encourage the practice of recycling and up-cycling.

Applications to participate in this no fee contest, must be turned in no later than Monday, April 4, 2022, to reserve space for the artist. Applications can be found at the Extension office or online at: www.ccrecycledart2022.eventbrite.com.

Entries to the contest will be on display for public viewing at the Inverness Government Center lobby, located at 110 N. Apopka Ave, Inverness, from Monday, April 11, 2022 to Friday, April 22, 2022, during the hours of 8:00am through 5:00pm.

When viewing artwork, the public is encouraged to vote for the People’s Choice award. This award, along with first, second, and third prizes, will be presented to students in two categories: middle school and high school. The student’s art will be judged on artistic ability and environmental elevance.

Art will be on display and winners announced at the Earth Day event held at the Citrus County Extension office, located at 3650 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto, on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Awards will be distributed at 1:00pm during the Earth Day festivities.
