April Luncheon to focus on Florida's property insurance crisis.

Citizens Property Insurance was established by the Florida Legislature in 2002 as an “insurer of last resort” for homeowners who are unable to obtain private market coverage elsewhere. However, over recent years, Citizen policies have increased exponentially as many private insurers have been pulling out of the Florida market. One of the reasons that private insurers are fleeing Florida is not because of claims due to losses, but because of proliferation of homeowner lawsuits, particularly on fraudulent roof claims, that have mushroomed in Florida.
Carl Rockman, Vice President of Agency and Market Services for Citizens, will address this crisis in Florida’s property insurance market as the keynote speaker at the Chamber’s April 8 luncheon at the Plantation on Crystal River.
