37

Santa Fe College President Paul Broadie II, Ph.D. invites the college community to celebrate the start of the 2022-2023 academic year with fall convocation to be held in the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Friday, Aug. 19, beginning at 9 a.m.

This year’s convocation will feature student stories, updates from both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, information on upcoming projects from Facilities Services, as well as recognition of employee service to the college. During his remarks, President Broadie will review progress made over the last year on existing college programs and initiatives, but will primarily focus on how we advance the college moving forward. Dr. Broadie will present his vision for how the college can serve students into the future, building on past successes and envisioning how they can meet the needs of students now.

There will also be updates on the Santa Fe College Academy of Science and Technology, the Learning Commons, the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan.

The guest speaker at convocation will be Peter Felten, executive director of the Center for Engaged Learning, assistant provost for teaching and learning, and professor of history at Elon University. He will be talking about relationship-rich education and how faculty and staff across the college can develop relationships that support student success.

The college community is invited for light refreshments at 8:30 a.m. leading up to convocation, with an option for lunch as attendees leave. For those who are unable to attend convocation in person, a link to watch a live stream of convocation will be posted in a later update.
