Gators Primed for Season Opener at FAU

University of Florida Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

Florida men's and women's swimming and diving is set to open up their season on Oct. 2 at 10:00 a.m. against Florida Atlantic in Baca Raton, Fla.

The men are coming off of a third-place finish at last year's NCAA Championships while the women are coming off of a 17th place.

Preseason Gator Splashes

The Gators will open up three-time SEC Coach of the Year Anthony Nesty's third season ranked No. 3 in the preseason College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Poll, the highest of any SEC team. While the women are ranked 12th.

The women's team finished second at the SEC Championships last year.

The men's team won there ninth consecutive SEC Championship last year.

Bobby Finke is coming into the season with two gold medals from the Tokyo Olympics in the 1500m and the 800m.

Kieran Smith earned the bronze in the 400 free in Tokyo.

Both Finke and Smith are defending champions in their respective events at last year's NCAA Championships.

The men have five Olympians returning this year including, Bobby Finke, Kieran Smith, Eric Friese, Alfonso Mestre, and Amro Al-Wir.

Talia Bates in coming off a second-place finish in the 200 free at the NCAA Championships and 12th place finish in the 100 back at the Olympic Trials.

The women's team finished second at the SEC Championships last year.
