Bike Rebab Project Needs Donated Bikes and Mentors

26

St. Edward's School issued the following announcement on Dec. 19

Bicycle Donations Needed for the Bike Rehab Project

Do you have a used bicycle in your garage that you would like to donate for a good cause? Bike Walk IRC, Inc., Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy and Orchid Island Kayaks and Bikes have partnered on an initiative called The Bike Rehab Project, where they restore donated bikes and distribute them for free to people in need of transportation in our county. Bike donations can be dropped at Orchid Island Kayaks and Bikes at 1175 Commerce Avenue (just off 12th Street in Vero Beach).  Store hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The program has been a great success in our area.  Please consider donating a used bicycle either over the holidays or sometime during 2022.

Volunteer Opportunity: Bicycle Mechanics Instructors/Mentors

Bike Walk IRC, Inc. also is looking for volunteers to assist adult instructors in teaching bike mechanics to kids participating in Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy's Bike Mechanics Program. Volunteers do not need previous experience working on bikes, they simply need to be mechanically inclined and willing to learn. This would be a great opportunity to mentor others in need and to use/develop your mechanical and teaching skills. Classes meet at the Bike Walk Indian River County, Inc. warehouse behind Orchid Island Kayaks and Bikes at 1175 Commerce Avenue just off 12th Street in Vero Beach on Mondays 4 - 6 p.m.
