College of Central Florida recently issued the following announcement.
The College of Central Florida Softball team opened up conference play today at Santa Fe. They dropped game one 11-7 and rebounded in game two winning 8-0. In game one
Santa Fe got off to an early lead with 3 runs in the first with a 3-run home run by Giebeig and three more runs in the second innings. The Patriots made a comeback by scoring
three in the fifth and three more in the seventh but ultimately came up a little short. CF racked up eight hits in the game, including a homer by Katie Hogue in the second. Hogue
and Lily Garnett-Brown each collected two hits.
In game two it was the Patriots who got off to an early lead by scoring five runs in the top of the first. A 3-run home run by Katie Hogue got the offense going scoring Gianna
Guerriero and Alyssa Adams. Jade Fayad later singled home Abbey O'Connor and then double by Brooke Roberts scored Fayad. The Patriots put the Saints away in the sixth with
another 3-run home run by Gianna Guerriero scoring Fayad and Meyer. Savannah Barnett pitched a gem, throwing a complete game six innings allowing only one hit and striking
out four to improve to 12-4 on the season.
The Patriots are now 26-12 overall and 1-1 in conference. The next match up for CF will be on Saturday vs conference foe Daytona State College at home starting at 1 PM.
