The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum, located at One Courthouse Square, Inverness, FL, will be hosting many interesting and informative events this holiday season, including a

local Coffee and Conversations speaker, new Lunch and Learn program, exciting new exhibits, and a free Christmas concert.

Coffee and Conversations

control in the county and current day practices. Plumley is an entomologist and public education specialist with our district with much to share. Do you remember running behind

the mosquito control fog truck as a kid? A lot has changed since the Citrus County Mosquito Control District was established in 1953. Explore the rich history behind

mosquito controls in Florida and see original photos from the early days of mosquito control here in Citrus County. Plumley will also discuss our current day practices, and how you

can help in your very own backyard. This program is free and open to the public. Guests may attend the talk in person at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum or join a livestream

and watch from the comfort of their own home. Apron Strings: Ties to the Past Tie One On…An Apron, of Course is the latest traveling exhibit to visit the Old Courthouse Heritage

Museum, opening on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 and on display through Friday, January 7, 2022. The exhibit comes from EllynAnne Geisel of Apron Memories, who has

been collecting aprons and the powerful stories they tell for over 20 years. According to Geisel, “An apron memory isn’t a scholarly dissertation. It isn’t mired in dusty facts and

details. It is a story of life and memory that engages and catches you up in the telling. The storyteller’s voices tap into our collective memories and experiences via universal

themes, such as Gratitude, Wellness, Survival, Fortitude, Opportunity, Tradition, and Faith.

Lunch and Learn

If you have an apron and a story to share, you are invited to participate in the museum’s first Lunch and Learn speaker program on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 12:00pm-

1:30pm with presenters Marnie Ward and Sue Collins from UF/IFAS Extension. Ward is Citrus County’s 4-H agent and Collins is a 4-H club leader and gifted seamstress. They will

share aprons from their personal collections and talk on the amazing history of aprons. Come to learn the rich history of aprons and how we are passing it on to future generations

in our community.
